We work with Barclays in a number of ways, they refer small business clients looking to export for the first time and/or to further develop their overseas footprint to the Department for International Trade. We are also working with them on a Website Internationalisation Initiative which is designed to raise awareness of Website Internationalisation and e-Commerce as a viable growth mechanism for businesses looking for further export growth.
We are also working in collaboration with Barclays to support a new incubation facility based at Innovation Birmingham new iCentrum incubation facility. Plans are being worked up to offer entrepreneurs drop in clinics to get them thinking about global opportunities.
We are now in the process of developing a ‘buddy system’ in which local International Trade Advisers (ITAs) and their counterparts in HSBC will be linked and encouraged to meet on a regular basis to build stronger working relations.
We are now working up plans to host a ‘Future markets’ conference which will be a joint initiative between the Department for International Trade, HSBC and Mills & Reeve.
RBS / NatWest host regular discussion groups for their clients, we attend each of these events leading an export focused discussion session. These events are designed to be highly interactive and are used to help us build a better understanding of clients and the business landscape there is in the West Midlands.
We currently provide drop in clinics and online training to entrepreneurs that are enrolled on the RBS / NatWest Entrepreneurial Spark programme.
We are now working up plans to roll out a ‘Virtual Trade Missions’ initiative which was previously piloted with Polish food and drink buyers. The events connect local businesses to Overseas Buyers via Skype to establish buyer interest before visiting the market and meeting with the contact built through the programme.
We regularly attend Lloyds meetings, with a dedicated spot for UK Trade & Investment and UK Export Finance to provide updates and to facilitate a group discussion on areas of further collaboration. We also lead an export focused discussion session for their clients.
Atradius provide us with regular feeds of market intelligence, this information is then used to develop targeted messaging designed to prompt their client base to connect to the Department for International Trade.
We will shortly launch a new initiative for Atradius clients where they will be offered pre-booked meetings via Skype with various Overseas Posts and face to face meeting with local ITAs.
Working in partnership with BCU and other local Universities we host ‘Start-up Global’ events which are attended by final year students and entrepreneurs looking to establish ways to build in internationalisation into the business planning.
Drop-in clinics are now scheduled in all six sub-regions. These are designed to target companies with advanced export capabilities with the view of supporting them to build on global export success and increase their footprint within the Chinese market.
We host a joint ‘Winning business in China’ masterclass which is designed to communicate the importance of language and culture when doing business in China.
Following a successful roundtable dinner to coincide with EEF quarterly Manufacturing Outlook report we plan to host similar quarterly discussion groups which are used to communicate opportunity and address trade barriers.
We have just commenced a project working with EEF and UK Trade & Investment German to map supply chain opportunities in Germany with capabilities of West Midlands manufacturing companies.
We are currently in the process of finalising a joint initiative with BATF which will provide BATF members with a tailored and staged growth plan.
We work closely with Moneycorp and their clients to offer the best export advice and help. Moving forward we will work with together to develop activity designed to help their clients and connect them to services and support offered by the Department for International Trade.
Working in partnership with KPMG we hosted a US round table dinner discuss hosted at The Haughmond (Shropshire) – the event incorporated expertise on the US: Tax, Accounting, Routes to Market, Legals and DIT support. We are now planning to run similar events across the West Midlands.
