Tastes Marvellous is an international exporter of food, selling primarily British, but also Irish, American and South African products to consumers all over the world.

The business challenge

When Tastes Marvellous was first approached by DIT, 80% of business came from outside the UK. The company wanted to know which other overseas markets might be successful and where there was a niche for specific products. Director Katie Smith explains that “straight away we could see the opportunities that were out there”.

How DIT has helped

In 2012 Tastes Marvellous joined DIT’s Passport to Export programme and completed an OMIS for America, Australia and China. Smith says “You kind of forget that there’s this whole other world out there. You think that it’s just the UK, but when you break out you can see so much more” and a 2013 Export Insight Visit to Denmark set the foundations for the company to continue to grow. Particularly successful markets have been for baby milk in China and the company utilised DIT support to overcome language and communication barriers. With the goal of elevating Tastes Marvellous to the Gateway to Global Growth programme, the company regularly attends workshops and events, finding that “DIT are very good at bringing the right type of people together”. The support of an International Trade Adviser has been “absolutely brilliant- she always points us in the right direction” and there are plans to build upon growing sales in China.
