SME International Growth Project

LogoERDFWMCC are currently developing a new and exciting project aimed at stimulating export growth within the region. The project SME International Growth Project’ will address identified gaps in core International Trade Services provision and provide additional elements that will address business needs and provide financial support that will encourage and assist SMEs in the West Midlands to investigate and move into new overseas markets to take advantage of opportunities and deliver export growth.

The proposed project consists of

  1. Grant support;
  2. Awareness raising;
  3. International liaison

The project will enhance the capability and capacity of SMEs to exploit opportunities in overseas markets by providing:

  • market visits for SMEs to investigate and exploit researched opportunities;
  • awareness raising events and communications to brief companies on international opportunities;
  • a Grant programme for SMEs designed to address financial barriers to exporting;
  • visits to major exhibitions/trade shows enhanced with additional programmes to enable SMEs to meet identified business contacts;
  • opportunities to meet buyers and/or sector experts from overseas markets;
  • joint LEP/Growth Hub engagement activities, such as workshops, export tasters or local marketing campaigns to encourage sustainable exporters to grow.

Support will be provided by International Trade Advisers (ITA) operating out of the six West Midlands Chambers of Commerce and will be accessible through the region’s Growth Hubs. ITA support will be provided to eligible SMEs in the following sub regions:

  • Black Country;
  • Coventry & Warwickshire;
  • Greater Birmingham & Solihull;
  • Herefordshire & Worcestershire;
  • Shropshire;
  • Staffordshire

The anticipated timescale for this project is 1st November 2016 and ending on 30th June 2019.
